At last.
I’m really struggling with my broadband at home. I don’t live in a city - but I don’t live in the sticks either. Most nights I’m bumbling along with around 300kbs and a 100:1 contention ratio. Access to high speed broadband is becoming a major differentiator in deciding whether to move to an area. In the not too distant future, a home without a high speed internet link will seem like a home without a gas or electricity supply. It is becoming fundamental to the way we live our lives. As our workforce changes, our hours of work become more flexible and the access to information and technology within our own home increases - high speed internet access will become a necessity - not a luxury.
As our access to entertainment changes to become entirely IP based - with multiple mechanisms of viewing and interacting within a single typical household, 4~10mbps simply won’t suffice. Streaming different and live HD content to multiple displays while also supporting general internet use and online gaming and also HD videoconferencing from the home is going to become an expected way of life… and the network needs to be there to support it.
