Inside Scott's Brain

Random thoughts whenever I get the urge to spout off about something or another.

Dinosaurs

Showed my 2 year old son a picture of a dinosaur and he said ‘peacock’. Either he’s really clever and subscribes to the bird/dinosaur evolution theory or he just got mixed up. I suspect the former. Proud dad.

I’ve been struggling for a few days with Grand Slam Tennis on the Wii - my first experience with ‘Motion Plus’.  Thing is, I’m rubbish at tennis in real life.  Wii Sports tennis was really workaround the limitations of the initial Wii controller and traded on the fun people had doing big swings.  This game is a different kettle of fish - realistic tracking of swings for accurate placement meant someone so Tennisically-challenged would really have problems with it.  Then I saw this video and it all became clear.

The thing is, EA had to scale back the 1:1 tracking since a game where you had to play against Federer would simply be too difficult if it expected you to be very precise - therefore, there’s a few knacks to the control mechanism.  Once you’ve seen this video, it should all fall into place.

my first garageband recording - timings all over the place, but still very impressed at how easy it is to use.

Loch Insh watersports centre. I can’t recommend this place enough. We’ve had extraordinary weather up here all week and this place is a real gem. Loads of stuff to do, a small beach, a great bar and restaurant and, if you’re that way inclined, there’s all kinds of watersports available. Took this photo with the iphone.

Every once in a while you just have a moment of almost perfect contentment and, I’ve got to admit, I had one here today. Watching the wife and kid play in the sand as I stood on the balcony finishing of an ice cold beer. Just perfect.
